The Bielefeld police department has received its first new Ford S-Max patrol car.
In the last few days, the vehicle has been fully upgraded by the Presidium's workshop team and equipped with a radio system so that it is now available for operations. During a press event today at noon, the patrol car of function 021 was handed over to the East police station, where the FuStKW will be used in future. The journalists present were given the opportunity to take a look at the vehicle and be introduced to the new features.
By March 2021, the 48 patrol cars currently on the road in the city are to be replaced by Ford S-Max and Mercedes Vito vehicles. Two more vehicles of this type are to follow this year, which will be distributed between the North and South stations. What is new is that the vehicles will be purchased by the state for reasons of economy and no longer leased.
The "S-Max" had already come out on top in the "Van" category in the practical test by colleagues from the security service. Many of the colleagues' wishes from the test phases have been incorporated into the vehicle. These include work lights in and on the vehicle as well as an improved, fully digital video self-securing system to the front and rear with a control display. Also new are the blue front crossing and rear flashers and roof flashing lights.
In summary, the new patrol car offers more space for occupants, more clearly arranged storage space for police-specific equipment and better visibility on the road.
