The NRW police detected violations in 1,002 vehicles during targeted Europe-wide truck checks from October 14 to 20, 2019. This means that more than every second police check resulted in complaints. In 160 cases, the police prohibited the vehicle from continuing its journey. In 140 cases, the reason for this was significant technical defects, overloading or improperly secured loads.

In total, the NRW police checked 2,385 trucks during the "Truck" heavy goods vehicle inspection campaign coordinated by the European traffic police network "ROADPOL" (formerly TISPOL). This is based on reports from the district police authorities.

The NRW police are continuing to step up their checks on trucks and buses. The aim of the increased checks is to combat the main causes of serious truck accidents such as lack of safety distance, inappropriate speed, fatigue after violations of driving and rest times as well as technical defects in an even more targeted manner.

Increased checks on passenger and freight traffic are a key component of the NRW police's specialist traffic strategy.
